Questions about your van

Will you buy my van if it has a private registration?

Yes, if you want to keep your personal registration number (private plate), you must complete the V317 form.

  1. Get the Form: Download the V317 form from the DVLA website or pick one up at any Post Office.
  2. Send: Mail the filled-in form and the required fee to: DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AR.

Crucially, we can still buy your car while this process is underway. Just let us know you’ve submitted the V317 form!

Can I sell my vehicle if I don’t have the V5 registration document?

It’s often not a problem if you don’t have the original V5C document (log book)—we can frequently still purchase your car!

However, to ensure a legal and smooth transaction, we will require:

  • Your photo ID.
  • In some cases, other evidence of ownership, such as old MOT certificates or registration documents.

Getting a Replacement V5C

If you need a new V5C for your own records or future transactions, you can easily apply for a replacement:

  1. Get the Form: Fill in the V62 form, which you can download from the DVLA website or pick up at any Post Office.
  2. Submit: Send the completed form and the required fee to: DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AR.

A replacement V5C usually takes between 3 to 4 weeks to arrive.

Will you still buy my van if it’s a non-runner?

Yes, we can buy any van, even if it is a non-runner.

Will you but my van if it's an insurance write-off?

Yes, simply use this website to request a valuation in the usual way. When you reach the form, just make sure you add a clear note stating that your car is an insurance write-off in the ‘Condition of Car’ box. This ensures we provide the most accurate quote right away.

Why do you need my phone number and email address?

We’ll contact you with your vehicle’s valuation, either by phone or email. Please let us know your preferred contact method directly in the form. Rest assured, we will not use your personal information for any other purpose, nor will we share your contact details with third parties. Your privacy is guaranteed.

How do you calculate my valuation?

We don’t rely on generic automated systems. Instead, we provide you with a true and accurate valuation by combining market data with expert insight.

  • Up-to-Date Pricing: Our valuations are calculated using the latest market evaluation systems. We constantly monitor and update our figures based on current market trends, ensuring your quote is always relevant.

  • Expert Assessment: Our professional valuers have many years of experience buying cars. They use this knowledge to assess your vehicle individually, taking all factors into account.

  • Personalised Service: We price all cars individually, which is why we don’t give you an instant, automated response like some websites. We take the time needed to get you the best possible price.

You will receive your personalised offer from us within 24 hours.

What does 'value subject to inspection' mean?

Our goal is to ensure the valuation we provide is as close as possible to the final price you receive.

How to Help Us Be Accurate
The more details you provide, the better. Any additional information you give us—whether on the form, over the phone, or via email—will help our valuers offer the most precise quote.

Important Note on Pricing
The initial figure we provide is a guide price and does not constitute a legally binding contract. The final offer to buy your car depends on confirming the exact condition and specification of the vehicle upon inspection.

We might find your car is actually worth more than the initial guide price, though occasionally it could be worth less if the condition differs from the description.

Questions about payment and collection

empty
How will payment be made?

We pay you instantly via Faster Payments Service bank transfer. You will receive your money immediately while we are still collecting your vehicle. For full transparency, we will show you a confirmation of payment directly from our Lloyds Online Business Banking.

How long will it take to receive payment?

We use the Faster Payments Service via Lloyds to ensure rapid transfer. For most UK banks, the payment will be in your account immediately, and we won’t leave with your vehicle until the funds have cleared!

Can I be paid in cash?

Yes, we can offer cash payment for your vehicle, provided it is not going for recycling or scrap.

While some competitors claim they are prevented from paying cash due to money laundering regulations, we understand that many people prefer not to use bank transfers. We acknowledge that current rules can make obtaining a bank account difficult for some, and we aim to provide a convenient alternative.

Can I get a refund on my road tax?

Since October 1st, 2014, your vehicle tax (or “road tax”) can no longer be transferred to a new owner when you sell a vehicle.

  • When you notify the DVLA of the change of keeper, you will automatically receive a refund for any full calendar months remaining on your tax.
  • This refund will be sent to the registered keeper’s address that the DVLA currently holds for you, so it’s crucial to ensure your details are up to date on their records.
Can you still buy my van if I have finance payments outstanding?

We can absolutely settle your outstanding finance as part of the vehicle purchase.

  • If you want us to settle it: Due to Data Protection laws, you will need to obtain the final settlement figure from your finance company in writing and provide it to us.

  • If you want to settle it yourself: We will require written confirmation of the full and final payment from your finance company before we can pay you for your car.

How quickly can you collect my van?

We aim to make the collection of your van as quick and convenient as possible.

  • Depending on your location, we can often arrange collection for the same day or next day.
  • We usually collect vehicles within 48 hours, but we can sometimes take a little longer if it helps us match a specific time that is most convenient for you.
Can you collect my van while I’m at work?

We can collect your vehicle as long as someone is present to grant our agent access to it. It does not have to be the legal owner or registered keeper, but the person present at the time of collection must provide the following:

  • Personal Photo I.D. (e.g., driving license or passport)

  • A recent Utility Bill (as proof of address)

  • The Vehicle Documents (as listed previously/above)

If the person present has all these items, we can complete the collection.

Do you give me a set time for collection?

Yes, we will arrange a suitable collection time with you!

We offer flexible options to fit your schedule:

  • Standard Slots: We can book your collection into an AM or PM slot.

  • Specific Windows: Alternatively, we can work with a smaller ‘hour window’ (e.g., between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM).

If you need to travel to meet us, we can also give you advance notice of our estimated time of arrival.

Questions about documentation

empty
What documents do I need to fill in when scrapping my van?

If you have the V5C vehicle registration certificate (log book), you will need to complete the following:

  1. Sign the V5C in the section for the seller (this is usually Section 9 when selling to a motor trader, but always confirm the correct section for a trade sale).
  2. Once we have collected the vehicle, you must then detach and send the relevant section (the notification of sale to a motor trader/insurer/dismantler) to the DVLA yourself.
Do I need to inform the DVLA?

To ensure you are no longer legally responsible for the vehicle, please follow these steps:

  1. V5C Section Completion: Our collection driver will complete and give you Section 9 of your V5C log book (or the equivalent section on newer versions, typically Section 4) for you to keep.
  2. Seller Action Required: You must sign this section and send it directly to the DVLA as soon as the vehicle is collected.
  3. Confirmation: You will receive a confirmation letter from the DVLA within approximately four weeks to confirm their records have been updated and that your liability for the vehicle has ended.
Do you inform the DVLA?

When we purchase your vehicle, it will be taken to an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF). The paperwork process then depends on the car’s intended fate:

  • If the vehicle is Scrapped: Your car will be de-registered directly with the DVLA, and a Certificate of Destruction (CoD) will be issued if you have specifically requested one.
  • If the vehicle is sold to a Trader/Dismantler: We will complete the relevant section of the V5C (usually Section 9 or Section 4 on newer log books) on collection, which you must then sign and send off to the DVLA yourself.
Why do I need Photo ID and utility bill?

Due to the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, we are legally required to verify your identity before completing the purchase.

We must take a copy of the following documents:

  • Photo ID (e.g., Driving Licence or Passport)
  • A recent Utility Bill (dated no more than 3 months old)

We understand this step may be inconvenient, as it wasn’t required previously, but it is now a legal requirement for us to comply with the Act.
